Connection of 3 new electrolyzers

In 2018, a prominent chlorine production company embarked on an ambitious project to expand its chlorine production capacity. This project was a response to the growing market demand and the need to maintain its leadership position in the chemical industry.

Goal:

The project's goal was clear: to carry out the expansion of the production plant by incorporating three new Asahi electrolyzers. To achieve this, the decision was made to delegate to Gecsa the responsibility of designing, manufacturing, and installing the necessary bus bar for this expansion.

Scope of the Project by Gecsa:

Gecsa, an expert in high-intensity conductors, was responsible for designing, manufacturing, and installing the necessary aluminum bus bar to connect the three Asahi electrolyzers. The project scope included:

  1. Designing and manufacturing aluminum bus bar sections capable of handling a maximum current intensity of 18KA for each electrolyzer. This included flexible connections to absorb expansions or errors in assembly.
  2. Supplying and installing a total of 6 switches, two for each electrolyzer.
  3. Providing a current intensity meter for constant measurement of the current in the system.
  4. Defining and installing the typology and quantity of carbon steel supports to ensure the correct support of the bus bar, taking into account all the stresses to which it could be subjected.
  5. Connecting the bus bar to the electrolyzers using cables protected with heat-shrink sleeves and manufacturing and installing flexible connections for the interconnections between electrolyzers.
  6. Applying a special paint coating to the bus bar to increase its lifespan and improve cooling efficiency.
  7. Installing polyethylene protectors to ensure safety and prevent human contact with the bars.
  8. Performing field assembly of all these elements.

Results:

The chlorine production expansion project was a resounding success in all its phases. Thanks to Gecsa's experience and commitment, the chlorine production company was able to carry out the expansion of its plant without significant setbacks. Successful results included:

Successful compliance with project delivery and execution deadlines.

A robust and efficient bus bar that allowed the company to connect the transformer-rectifier to the electrolyzers optimally and thus significantly increase its chlorine production capacity.

Maintaining a constant relationship with the customer, with the delivery of spare parts regularly, demonstrating the customer's ongoing satisfaction with Gecsa's services.
