Busbar power increase by adding flexible connections

In the aluminum industry, the ability to adapt and optimize electrical systems is key to ensuring efficiency and competitiveness. In 2023, a leading aluminum production company decided to carry out an upgrade of its busbar system, taking advantage of an extended production shutdown to increase its production capacity and optimize its operating costs.

Starting Situation:

The company had an oversized busbar system for its production. However, the connections between the bars presented section losses, which affected efficiency and limited the plant's growth potential.

Objective:

The main objective of the project was to increase the available power and improve the busbar’s adaptability to sudden fluctuations in demand. This would enable the company to reduce its energy costs.

Solution Adopted by the Client:

To optimize the system, the client chose to remove the existing busbar connections and install flexible connections that preserved the main busbar section. These connections not only ensured the continuity of the electrical flow without section losses but also allowed for the absorption of expansions generated by demand fluctuations.

Gecsa played a fundamental role in the execution of this project, taking responsibility for supplying 100% of the required flexible connections. Additionally, our team of highly specialized technicians carried out the installation and welding of a significant portion of these connections, ensuring the highest quality in the process.

Result:

Thanks to the collaboration between the aluminum production company and Gecsa, the busbar system has been successfully upgraded. The implementation of flexible connections has enabled the company to increase its production capacity, better adapt to demand variations, and reduce its operating costs.
